Click Window Color and Appearance. You should see the Aero options for controlling color and transparency. And the Flip 3D thing should work too. The screen just did not flip but a box with few icons (those screens that I was using eg. IE, MSN etc) would appear when I clicked on the 'Window Switcher' icon.

Flip 3D and aero
I had the Flip 3D finally working just fine, until today when I tried to show it to a visitor. I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did. All attempts did not fix the problem, until just all of a sudden it starts to work. I assumed it would continue to work, and was doing so, until today.

Today, after running fine for 5 months, Aero quit working. I first noticed that Flip 3D wasn't working, then noticed that none of the 3d features are working. If I had to guess what's going on, some program that would not run in Aero mode switched to Vista basic, and the OS didn't switch back.
