The aero effects are jumpy, especially flip 3d and minimize\maximize windows. Switch between windows in 3d isn't 3d.
The "flip 3D" natively available in Aero (and no, I don't know whether it is supported in 64-bit because I don't have a 64-bit system) is MS's copy of the real Expose. You might want to try it. Or perhaps your video card doesn't support Aero? Are you using the latest 64-bit drivers from your video card maker?

Windows Aero is Missing
I like Flip 3d. I keep alot of windows open and am constantly flipping to other windows. It's great to see the contents before switching. graphics (card and integrated, the integrated is a 200M that only has 64 MB shared and Flip 3-d still runs fine on it) and NVidia 6100s. No problem with Aero on any of them.
